Student Visa

Under virtually all circumstances, someone seeking to enter the United States
to study must obtain an appropriate visa for that purpose. By statute, persons
entering as temporary visitors are precluded from studying in the US. The most
commonly used visa for studying is the F~ I visa. Some students come to
the US on J~ 1 and M~ 1 visas.

Consult the consular section at the United States Embassy or consulate as early
as possible to determine the specific procedures and documents necessary to
apply for a nonimmigrant student visa. Below are the usual requirements:

i. Passport, valid for at least six month after the date you plan to leave.
ii.	Visa application form.
iii.	A recent photograph, 5 cm by 5 cm, with your signature in English on the back.
iv.	Certificate of eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.
v.	Affidavit of Financial support form and evidence of support.
vi.	Evidence of English language ability.
vii.	Any other documents of local importance.

To apply for the student visa, present the above document to the US Consular Officer.
The Consular Officer usually interviews applicants and will examine students' documents
and review their educational plans. Although the visa application process normally is
not time-consuming, it is a good idea to apply early. Any question that might arise
about their qualification to revise a visa can be dealt with, without delaying their
departure. For entry into the United States, the colleges / universities endorsed
on the visa and the college / university you plan to attend must be the same.
