Why Do We (Education Division) Exist?

Realising the increasing importance of education in national development, PETRONAS in 1998 established a new Division known as the Education Division specially to oversee the effective implementation of education and training programmes to meet PETRONAS' human resource needs especially in the petroleum sector. This is indeed a step forward in PETRONAS' contribution to the field of education in the country.

PETRONAS' involvement in education and skills development, in fact, began in 1978. Started as part of the Human Resource Management (HRM) function, it has today evolved into a full-fledge division, reflecting the increasing emphasis and importance given by the corporation to Education and Training.

Education is indeed an essential tool to support our business growth, and more importantly the country's ongoing economic development to realise its Vision 2020 goals. Such is our social obligation as the national petroleum corporation, one that is in line with our objective to contribute to the well being of the people and the nation, as clearly stated in our Mission Statement.

To this end, PETRONAS has since its early days been contributing in a tangible way to educational and skill development efforts in the country. Today, PETRONAS' contribution to education is reflected in the wide spectrum of educational programmes and training facilities offered by the corporation, ranging from its kindergarten, TASKA PETRONAS to the PETRONAS Scholarship programme for Institutions both local and abroad, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS(UTP), the Maritime Academy (ALAM), PETRONAS Management Training Sdn Bhd (PERMATA), Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP), Petroleum Resource Centre (PRC) and PETROSAINS.
